Recycling and Bulk Pickup

Welcome to the resource page for Fredon Township’s residential bulk waste disposal and recycling program. Routine management helps preserve the rural beauty of our municipality. Review the schedules and compliance rules below.

Recycling

Curbside recycling collection runs continuously throughout the year on specified Mondays. Source-separated recycling is required by law for all residential and commercial real estate. Place recyclables curbside by 5:00 AM on your scheduled day and secured inside unlabeled, secure containers. (Containers cannot have trash haulers names on them.) Items left in plastic or paper bags will not be picked up.

In New Jersey, all residents and businesses are required by law to recycle.

Contact the Clerk by 2:00 PM on the day recycling is scheduled if yours has not been picked up.

Commingled Recyclables

The following items may be recycled commingled:

  • Aluminum and Tin Cans
  • Glass Bottles and Jars (all colors)
  • Plastic Containers (#1 through  #7)
  • Corrugated Cardboard (flattened)
  • Chipboard (cereal boxes, etc.) (flattened)
  • Brown paper bags
  • Newspapers

Holiday Pickup

If a holiday impacts pickup, collection will take place on the next day.

The contract hauler may not observe all holidays, when in doubt, please put your recyclables out for the scheduled day.

Bulk

Fredon Township offers curbside bulk extraction for all eligible residential properties. Items must be set at the curb the evening prior to collection. Routes commence promptly at 5:00 AM. Crews will not return to streets once completed.

Material collection is managed via an independent municipal contractor, separate from standard weekly refuse collection. Item eligibility requires that items exceed standard bin volume; small trash items containerized in normal household bags will be skipped.

Bulk Items – What’s Allowed

To avoid compliance enforcement or skipped material, sort household waste according to the standard classifications below:

Accepted Bulk Items

  • Outdoor patio fixtures
  • Residential furniture (sofas, box springs, tables, frames)
  • Mattresses (wrapped securely)
  • Rugs and bundled interior carpeting
  • Large major appliances (washers, dryers, stoves)

Prohibited Material

  • Standard bagged household kitchen waste
  • Commercial building or structural construction debris
  • Automotive tires, batteries, and mechanical components
  • Hazardous household chemical products
  • Complete whole-house estate clean outs
